House CF: A Modern Family Retreat in Ibiuna, Brazil
House CF, a remarkable creation by architect Sandra Sayeg, is more than just an architectural project—it's a heartfelt response to a family's yearning for a warm and functional countryside escape. Nestled in the tranquil region of Ibiuna, Brazil, this home elegantly blends modern design principles with the comforts of a family abode.
Designing for Family Life
With an area of 562 m² spread over a generous 1,970 m² site, House CF caters to the needs of a young family with two children. The renovation centered around expanding the existing structure, which initially included just 304m² of space, to accommodate an impressive five suites, a game room, a gym, a sauna, and a gourmet area.
To Blend or Not to Blend: Architecture’s Balancing Act
One of the standout features of this project was the decision to preserve the original roof structure while enhancing the space with modern design elements. The use of glued laminated timber creates a sense of lightness and openness, merging the new and existing areas smoothly. This approach not only respects the original architectural language but also emphasizes the connection between the interior and the natural world outside.
Modern Interiors Meet Functional Design
Inside, the floor plan has been meticulously redesigned to maximize natural light and promote a sense of community. With a reimagined kitchen featuring a central island, the room now serves as both a warm gathering place and a functional cooking area. Closing systems offer versatility, allowing areas to remain open or private depending on the occasion.
Harmonious Living Spaces
Perhaps the most intriguing aspect of the design is the way different spaces, like the new children’s suite, are interconnected. The result is a fluid environment where family members can interact casually. The inclusion of a fireplace and custom-designed furniture enhances the feeling of coziness and unity within the home, where distinct zones serve varied purposes.
Overall, House CF stands as an impressive example of how architecture can cater to the ever-evolving needs of family life while respecting the environment and maintaining a strong aesthetic focus.
