Inspiration and Design at Father & Bun
Father & Bun, designed by Atelier130, is a vibrant restaurant bar located in Lebanon that draws inspiration from mid-century Manhattan venues and the quirky aesthetics of filmmaker Wes Anderson. This 150 m² establishment, set to open in 2025, emphasizes authenticity and storytelling, using raw materials and creating intimate spaces that invite diners to savor their experiences.
Overcoming Architectural Challenges
The site posed unique challenges, including a dominant structural column and a floor positioned 90 cm below street level. Constraints from the landlord also limited changes to the existing double-height stone wall, a cherished family heritage element. However, rather than conceal it, the design team chose to celebrate the wall's rawness, allowing it to enrich the restaurant's material honesty and emotional depth.
Innovative Interior Elements
The restaurant’s interior features a ceiling left raw, integrated with acoustic foam to manage sound—an essential feature often overlooked in dining spaces. Lighting plays a crucial role as well, with fixtures designed by PSLAB to create an atmospheric yet unobtrusive experience, casting theatrical beams that enhance the gourmet dining ambiance.
Material Selection and Collaboration
Father & Bun's design thoughtfully employs granite, marble, and tile, crucial for achieving aesthetic pleasure and functionality. The collaboration between the architect, contractor, and fabricators is evident in every detail, ensuring that the materials selected harmoniously contribute to the overall theme while standing up to the rigors of restaurant life. This synergy exemplifies how different roles come together to enhance a project.
