Rodney Childers Joins JR Motorsports
In a significant shake-up for NASCAR fans, veteran crew chief Rodney Childers is set to join JR Motorsports (JRM) as the crew chief for the No. 1 Chevrolet in 2026. An established name in the world of racing, Childers comes with an impressive record, including 40 wins and a championship title with Kevin Harvick in the 2014 NASCAR Cup Series.
A New Chapter for Childers
After spending a decade at Stewart-Haas Racing, Childers transitioned to Spire Motorsports, but his tenure was cut short early in the 2025 season. With his move to JRM, he becomes part of a team that is steeped in racing tradition.
Connecting with the JR Motorsports Family
Dale Earnhardt Jr., a stalwart of the NASCAR community and now a team owner, expressed enthusiasm about welcoming Childers to the JRM family. "Rodney and I grew up together and have known each other since we were kids. It’s exciting to finally work together in an official capacity," he stated. This partnership embodies not just a professional relationship but a long-standing friendship, which might just fuel their success on the track.
The Future Looks Bright for JRM
As JRM gears up for the upcoming season, they'll also introduce a shift in their driver lineup. Carson Kvapil will move from a full-time role to sharing the No. 1 car with Connor Zilisch, who will have his hands full competing in both the Xfinity and Cup levels. The team hopes this fresh lineup, coupled with Childers’ expertise, will bring their car to Victory Lane, especially since the No. 1 has yet to win in 2025.
Childers’ Vision for Success
Expressing his excitement, Childers remarked, “To see what Dale, Kelley, and Mr. H have built is amazing. I’m eager to lead two talented young drivers who represent the future of NASCAR.” His optimism sets a promising tone for JRM as they aim for the championship spotlight in the years to come.
